The Best Wrapping Paper for Handmade Bouquets in 2026

June 3, 2026 · 5 min read · By R&R Crafts & Gifts

If you've ever wrapped a bouquet only to watch the paper sag, tear, or bleed color the moment a single drop of water touched it, you already know: not all wrapping paper is bouquet-grade. The paper sitting in your gift-wrap drawer is built for boxes — flat, dry, and rigid. A bouquet needs paper that's flexible enough to bend around stems, stiff enough to hold a shape, and finished well enough to look polished on camera.

What "bouquet-grade" wrapping paper actually means

There are four properties that matter when you're picking wrapping paper for a handmade bouquet:

  1. Weight. Heavier paper (80–120 gsm or thicker) creases more cleanly and stays open after you fan it out.
  2. Finish. A waterproof or wax-coated finish protects against floral water, sweaty palms, and rainy delivery days.
  3. Size. Pre-cut square sheets in roughly 22 × 22 inches give you enough material to wrap a full bouquet without ugly seams.
  4. Two-tone or printed designs. Sheets that have a different color or pattern on each side photograph beautifully — especially for the social-media buyer.

What to avoid

  • Thin tissue paper. It looks great in a gift bag and falls apart in a bouquet.
  • Glossy holiday wrap. Most isn't waterproof and the seasonal motif limits when you can use it.
  • Heavily coated foil. Pretty in the photo, brittle in person — it cracks the moment you fold it.

Designs that consistently sell

From what we see on the supply side, three styles do most of the work in a craft business:

  • Solid two-tone sheets. The workhorse. They go with every flower and accent.
  • Character / themed designs. Winnie the Pooh, Stitch, and other recognizable characters move fast for birthdays and kids' gifts.
  • Floral and abstract patterns. Especially for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and graduation.

How much wrapping paper to keep on hand

A single bouquet typically uses two sheets — one for the inner wrap and one for the outer flare. If you're running a small craft business, a 20-sheet pack covers roughly 10 bouquets, which is a comfortable monthly buffer for a side-hustle florist.

What we stock at R&R

Our wrapping paper collection is built specifically for handmade bouquets: 22.5 × 22.5 inch sheets, waterproof finishes, two-tone designs, and themed prints — all in 20-sheet packs that match how florists actually buy. If you're new, start with two packs of solid two-tone paper in your most-used colors before stocking themed designs.
